State College, PA - A ceremony marking the start of demolition and beginning of construction of The P Hotel Spa was held Monday, March 17, 2008 at the site of the former Lowe's warehouse on Waddle Road.
The P Hotel and Spa will be the first luxury condominium hotel for the Centre Region and the first GOLD LEED certified condominium hotel in the United States.
Centre County Commissioners Steve Dershem, Rich Rogers and Jon Eich were on hand to swing the ceremonial gold sledgehammers on demolition of the warehouse. 99% of materials on-site will be recycled include steel, glass, concrete and asphalt. Joanne Shaffer, Centre County Recycling Coordinator and Sharon Myers, representing Central PA Visitors and Convention Bureau, joined the demolition team.
"With the exception of some new building on Penn State's University Park campus, The P will be the first in Centre County to focus on our environment. " said Ben Heim, CEO of Tricore Group, LLC. "Our project combines luxury with superior environmental features."
The design team will apply for GOLD LEED certification on the project, a rating that indicates environmentally superior design, building practices, and operations.
Invited guests and dignitaries heard remarks under beautiful Central Pennsylvania blue skies and then observed the ceremonial bulldozing of the Lowe's property. Representatives from Patton Township, including Doug Erickson, Patton Township Manager were on hand to join in the celebration. Also in attendance were representatives from the local business community, local banking community, College Township Industrial Development Authority and the College Township Board of Supervisors.
